When are your services and where are you located?

Worship service is held Sundays at 10:30 a.m. at Bedford Presbyterian Church (BPC), 49 Nelson’s Landing, Bedford, NS.

What kind of service can I expect at BPC?

BPC has a contemporary, relaxed atmosphere. Worship is a time for the community to gather in God’s name, to worship the Creator in Scripture and song and to hear the Word of God expounded for our edification. Music is a big part of the BPC worship service. Our music team includes both contemporary and traditional worship music. The focus of every Sunday message is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper is held after the sermon, once a month, typically on the first Sunday of the month. A choice of wine or non-fermented grape juice is available during the Lord’s Supper.

Is there a Sunday School for children?

BPC offers a nursery for chlidren up to age 3 and Sunday school for elementary school age children. Typically children remain in the main service with their parents and go downstairs to nursery or Sunday School just prior to the sermon. Any child is welcome to remain in the sanctuary with their parents or go down stairs at any time. Sunday school includes singing and age appropriate crafts and games based on a Biblical lesson.

Are there any church groups or activities that I can join?

Of course! There are several Bible Study groups, based on age, location and interest. There are also prayer/scripture partners. Speak to the pastor on one of the elders if you are interested.

How can I get to know the people at BPC?

It’s easy. There is a great opportunity every Sunday after worship to meet other folks at BPC. Refreshments are provided and people enjoy a hot or cold drink, hang out and chat with each other. There are other opportunities such as our share-a-meal program and community meals.

Can I take communion?

BPC celebrates communion once a month, usually the first Sunday of the month. If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ and have been baptized, we welcome you to partake in the Lord’s Supper. If you are still searching or wondering if Christianity is for you, we ask that you refrain from taking communion.

Who can be baptized?

Infant children of believers are baptized to mark their inclusion in the Covenant of Faith. Adults who wish to join the Church, who have never been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit are baptized prior to entering into membership.

How would I become a member?

It would begin with a desire to publicly profess your faith and deepen your bond with our Church family of believers. The first step is to express your interest to the pastor or an elder of the church. After meeting with the pastor and elders to review your statement of faith, you would be formally welcomed into membership church during the worship service, on a Sunday soon after. This involves a verbal affirmation of commitment to the church and a welcome into membership.

What denomination is the BPC and are you affiliated with any other church organization?

Bedford Presbyterian Church belongs to the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The PCA is organized into regional geographic groups and Bedford Presbyterian belongs to the Presbytery of Eastern Canada.

Can I sign up to receive church emails?

Sure, please supply your contact information or any changes to your current information by email or fill out a directory information form at the church.

What is the offering for?

Bedford Presbyterian relies solely on the gifts and offerings of members, adherents and friends of the Church. Offering takes place each Sunday during the service. It is the time when members and adherents can support the work of the church by returning a portion of what God has provided to them. Guests and visitors need not feel obligated to contribute to the offering. All undesignated gifts will go to support the core ministries and day-to-day workings of the church.
